South Australian Country Fire Service Promotions Unit

Raising awareness of the roles, training and activities of CFS Volunteers state-wide

Requirements for membership

Being a part of the CFS To join the CFS as a firefighter, you need to be aged 18 years or over. There is no upper age limit. Many brigades accept cadets (aged between 11-18 yrs), but not all, so you will need to check with the individual brigade.

Before signing up, you will need to undertake a National Police check. The CFS brigade will provide you with the appropriate forms. This check is done at no cost to you. The result of the check is confidential. (Minor criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude a person from membership of the CFS)

You do not need to be an Australian Citizen to join the CFS
