The SA Country Fire Service Region One Operations Brigade is looking to recruit volunteers from the Mount Barker community and surrounding districts.

The Brigade, which has moved from Stirling to 75 Gawler Street, Mount Barker and is the Regional Headquarters and Coordination Centre for Mount Lofty Ranges and Kangaroo Island, is looking to recruit members from the local community and surrounding districts to provide operational, planning and management support to CFS ground crews.

These operational members would not be required to be actively involved in the physical suppression of fires or other front line incident action.

Current and former members of local CFS brigades and other local community members are also encouraged to join.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone wanting to make a valuable contribution to creating a safer environment in the local community.

CFS volunteers who dedicate their time to the operational functions of the brigade actively:

- Provide support to the Region One Coordination Centre during emergency incidents and on days of High Fire Danger

- Maintain and operate a fully outfitted mobile communication vehicle as a forward command centre during incidents in the Region, across the State and interstate

- Provide support to Incident Management Teams within the region

Member activities include:

- Resource Tracking (acknowledging, dispatching and monitoring location of appliances)

- Radio Communications

- Office administration (telephones, faxing, photocopying, recording)

- Computing activities using a variety of applications (Word, Excel, email, internet, mapping, smart boards, paging)

- Logistical support (supply of materials and services, provision transport, medical and other services)

- Planning support (mapping, identifying concerns, developing strategies etc)

Regular operations brigade training for the roles detailed above takes place at the Region One Office at 75 Gawler Street, Mt Barker on alternate Wednesdays during Winter and weekly during daylight saving.

For more in formation please contact CFS Region One Operations Brigade Lieutenant John Mudge on 0413 603 657 or Martin Carney on (08) 8391 1866.
