2005 Media Awareness Workshops

INVITATION TO ALL CFS VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF

2005 MEDIA AWARENESS WORKSHOPS

The SA Country Fire Service Public Affairs Unit will be conducting a series of media awareness workshops during November/December 2005.

All CFS volunteers who would like to expand their knowledge on how to deal with the media and increase the profile of their brigades are invited to attend.

CFS volunteers in leadership positions are also encouraged to participate.

The media workshops will be conducted at Region One CFS Headquarters, 75 Gawler Street, Mount Barker.

• 7-9.30pm Tuesday 22 November
• 2-4.30pm Saturday 26 November
• 2-4.30pm Saturday 3 December

The workshops will include:

• An introduction to CFS Public Affairs
• Defining today’s media
• The role of the media
• Understanding how the media work
• Why we need the media
• What the media is looking for
• How to create news
• Media liaison at incidents and events
• Do’s and donts for media interviews
• Frequently asked questions such as:
• Why do some incidents get a mention and not others?
• Why does it seem other agencies get more attention from the media?
• Why can’t you stop negative publicity?
