On 11th February 2007, the Hahndorf CFS will launch a book that has been five years in the making. It tells the story of the past 57 years of Hahndorf’s volunteer fire brigade – the struggle to build the first fire station, the Ash Wednesday conflagrations, endless fundraising and the remarkable, selfless people who have made the Hahndorf Brigade one of the best manned and equipped in the Adelaide Hills.

The story is told in a glossy, colourful 250 page book with over 200 photographs. All of the 300 individuals who have served with the Brigade since 1949 are recorded. It will be of great interest to everyone in the Hahndorf district and the wider volunteer fire service.

The book, entitled “We’re Not Heroes, The Story Behind the Hahndorf Country Fire Service, 1949-2006” will be officially launched on Sunday, February 11 2007, at the Hahndorf Fire Station. The Station will open at 10am with exhibits of local fire service memorabilia, and at 11am Chief Officer of the SA Country Fire Service, Euan Ferguson, will launch the book, as well as present National Medals and Life Membership to some of Hahndorf Brigade’s most senior members. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

Further details of the event and the book, including mail orders, can be obtained from the Brigade Administrative Officer, Trevor Gauld, on 83887997 or tvgauld@internode.on.net
