New Prime Mover - May 1995

During the first nine months of operating the unit, unfortunately, many events had to be cancelled as the Unit could not be moved.

There were very few prime movers that the Promotions Unit could borrow to move the trailer with. It was even harder to move it out to country events.

In May 1995 Hino Motors, Hino Australia and CMI-Hino came to the rescue of the Promotions Unit by donating a brand new, Hino GH Super Eagle, Inter-cooled Turbo Diesel Prime Mover.

The vehicle was donated to the CFS for two years to tow the Promotions Unit around the State. CFS HQ also agreed to pay for the fuel and running costs of the Prime Mover.

The Promotions Unit could now travel freely around the state attending events and helping recruit volunteers in even the remotest part of the State.

Mr Akiro Senuma, then CEO Hino Motors Australia, on his first official engagement since arriving in Australia from Japan to take up his new position, said that this was a first for Hino globally and was proud to support such an important organisation as the CFS.

The Hon. Wayne Matthew MP, then Minister for Emergency Services, then CFS Chief Officer, Mr Allan Ferris, and Mr Brian Wilson, then VFBA President accepted the vehicle on behalf of the CFS and thanked Hino for their generosity.

In 1997, the agreement was extended for another two years.

Ultimately, the prime mover remained with the Pantech, until it ceased operation, with the prime mover continuing in CFS in other brigades.
