Submitted On Monday, February 18, 2002
Submitted By Adam Hurle

The Meningie CFS Brigade has honoured their Captain Adam Hurle by nominating him for Young Citizen of the Year for 2002 at the Coorong District Council’s Australia day presentations in Meningie.
Adam joined the CFS in 1994 as a cadet and has since completed numerous courses including a CABA instructor at state level. He has held positions such as Brigade Lieutenant, Brigade Training Officer and many more. He has recently been elected by his brigade as Captain at the age of 22.

Coorong District Council Mayor, Heather Moore, presented the award and speaking on Adam’s attributes at the ceremony was Coorong CFS Group Officer Ian Colliver. Ian gave up his Australia day parade for the Sydney bushfires to spend the day with Adam. Mr. Hurle said he was honoured by the fact that Ian, an Australian Fire Service Medal recipient had given up his day for him.

At the ceremony Adam thanked the Brigade for nominating him and said the award is just as much the Brigade’s as his and also stated that it was great to see the South Australian of the year Mr. Bob Tanner, also from Meningie, started his volunteering in the very same brigade.
