The 7th Annual Service in Memory of Volunteer Firefighters who have died in the service of South Australia will be held on Friday 16th February at 3.30pm, at the Mt Lofty Summit
The service will be conducted by Bishop Greg O’Kelly SJ AM
The commemoration date was chosen because the Ash Wednesday II fires in 1983 saw the largest number ever of volunteer firefighters called to operations at the same time across Australia - some 16000 in South Australia and an estimated 120 000 nationally.
3.30pm is the time on Feb l6th 1983 when fire swept over the Mt Lofty Summit, destroying the old kiosk and damaging the fire tower.
Members of the public,as well as CFS members (current and former) are welcome to attend the service.
Firefighters wishing to participate in the Parade of Firefighters please wear Yellows with helmet. Medals may be worn on yellows.
Those wishing to take part in the parade are to assemble at Summit at 3.20pm. All members (including Cadets) are most welcome to take part in the parade.
